Complete Win at Harris County District Court

May 17, 2022

Hanszen Laporte partner, Matthew S.C. Hansel, recently won a bench trial in Harris County District Court for a longstanding HL corporate client. After rigorously exploring reasonable settlement opportunities Mr. Hansel was forced to take the case to trial, where he overcame numerous defenses to win on all claims against all defendants. Specifically, Mr. Hansel obtained a judgment on his client’s claims for sworn account and breach of contract against a corporate defendant, and a judgment against an individual defendant who signed a personal guaranty to induce the client to enter into the underlying transaction. The Court ruled that the individual defendant is jointly and severally liable, together with the corporate defendant, for all the client’s damages and attorney’s fees. A total victory. Hanszen Laporte works diligently to resolve disputes prior to trial in order to obtain the most efficient result for its clients; but Hanszen Laporte attorneys never back down from trial, and if a reasonable settlement cannot be had, Hanszen Laporte will not hesitate to try the case, and win.
