Oilfield Layoffs — Employers May Have a Duty to Warn

If crude oil stays at $50 a barrel or lower, most, if not all, of the energy companies will continue the trend of employee layoffs. As energy companies continue this course of action, both the employers and the employees need to be aware of the notice requirements set forth in the WARN Act and the penalties associated with not following the Act.
