Stacey L. BarnesStacey L. Barnes is a litigation and transactional attorney, concentrating his practice in the areas of international business law, general business representation, corporate law, commercial litigation, and intellectual property law. As a transactional attorney, Mr. Barnes counsels clients regarding a variety of business transactions, from basic entity formation to complex cross-border acquisitions or distribution and licensing agreements. As a litigator, Mr. Barnes has experience with cases ranging from simple collection matters to patent and trademark infringement cases, international trade secret litigation, and breach of commercial contract cases. Mr. Barnes has advised business clients on legal matters involving Canada, Mexico, St. Lucia, Italy, Germany, Britain, Ireland, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Russia, Saudi Arabia, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and the United States.
Mr. Barnes earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a National Merit Scholar and a NASA Fellowship Scholar. Mr. Barnes previously served as a legislative aide in the House of Representatives and Senate of the State of Texas. He is a cum laude graduate of the University of Houston Law School, where he was student body Vice-President.
Mr. Barnes is a member of the Houston Bar Association (Corporate Counsel and International Law sections), the State Bar of Texas (Business Law and International Law sections), the College of the State Bar of Texas, and the American Bar Association (Business Law, International Law and Intellectual Property Law sections). Mr. Barnes is on the Advisory Board for The South Texas College of Law - Frank Evans Center for Conflict Resolution. He also serves as an arbitrator in international, commercial, securities and intellectual property cases.
Prior to joining Hanszen
Laporte, Mr. Barnes worked for an international business law firm in Milan, Italy, as well as with several domestic Houston firms. He is an active member of the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce, Turkish American Association for Business, German American Chamber of Commerce, Young Internationals Group (Board Member: 2004 - present, President: 2005 - present), Houston World Affairs Council and Houston Rotary Club (International Service Committee). Mr. Barnes speaks Italian, Russian and Spanish.
